Shining a light on the history of Black Music in Britain….

The Music is Black: A British History is a new exhibition at V&A East in Stratford. This immersive experience reveals how Black British music has shaped British culture over the past 125 years and is a story of excellence and struggle, resilience and joy. Visitors can walk through the chronology of the music accompanied with headsets playing music to complement each exhibit.

Housed in the recently-opened V&A East, the exhibition was designed by Reality is__, built by Sam Forster Associates Ltd with lighting design by Jai Morjaria.

As part of the scheme, hundreds of our MentorLED fittings, which were specified by DHA Designs on behalf of the V&A, were used to bring the exhibits to light and create a dramatic lighting scheme beautifully illuminating the many costumes, paintings and instruments while safely guiding visitors through the space.

MentorLEDs are a popular choice for museum and gallery lighting as well as for retail, hospitality and heritage environments. Its classic housing style is ideal for flexible adjustable accent and area lighting. A comprehensive range of snap accessories includes louvres, spread and frosted lenses and CCT Shifters means the fittings can be easily adapted to suit changing displays.
